Drinking from a Spring

I was reminded last night of a spring near our house when I was a kid. Hidden in the woods near our house was this really cool spring that literally flowed from out of the rocks. It was at the base of a hill and surrounded by laurel trees. In the heat of the summer after playing all day we would go there and pull a leaf off a laurel tree, pinch the ends together, and fill it with water and drink it down. The water was not only clean and clear it was so much more refreshing that what came out of the tap at home.

What I realize today is that even though everyone in the neighborhood knew about this spring, and knew it provided such a higher quality of water, few people went to it for refreshment. I am sure there were many reasons, but I would say convenience was the primary one.

Kids, there are treasures in life that you will never experience if you persistently travel the road of convenience. Convenience, while telling you it is saving you time... will steal your reward. Convenience, while telling you it is enriching your life, by giving you more time, may very well rob from you experience that God might use to enrich others lives. We too often make decisions based upon how much effort something is going to take, or what the cost will be in the short term.

One key thought I would leave you with is this: Make decisions not out of convenience, but a mindset that not just looks at short term benefits, but long term cost.

" ... here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing whether good or evil"
Ecclesiates 12:13-14
